DESCRIPTION
The major flaw and immediate cause of most virus / worm
email infections is that when message is downloaded
by email client - it is already TOO LATE. Malicious code
executes before anything can be done to prevent it - so
the harm is already done.
Mailbox Guard offers a better way. It lets the user see all incoming
mail right on the server, and remove unwanted or suspicious
messages right there.
Mailbox Guard makes messages selection very easy. It pre-screens
mail and 'ranks' every message according to four-level
risk scale, which is presented as a color tags. It can
even automatically mark for deletion messages that meet
predefined criteria, simplifying process even further.
|
|
The core component of MBG is a smart, parsing engine, which is
trained to recognize patterns specific to messages which carries
dangerous or offending contents. It uses both algorithmic and
heuristic methods to determine the risk level.
Mailbox Guard can also work in the background, checking for new
mail periodically. When new mail arrives - it not only notifies the
user that new mail is waiting, but also provides immediate
indication about risk level. The color dot on the envelope act as
an instant status indicator. If it is stays gray - no new messages.
If turns on color - new messages are waiting and risk is denoted
by the color of the dot. If mouse is moved over the icon - it
reveals quick status (last-checked time and number of messages).
Version 1.7 features unlimited email account management, background
mail check, notification on new mail, user-definable lists,
plain-text preview, html-tag filter, remote preview and delete
of all emails from multiple accounts (without downloading to PC).
Automatic test and report of connection speed. Scan-status
database for all accounts. Master view, and account status line.
Easy Add / Remove mail senders to Black-list or White-list with one
click. New, cool looking interface, and more.
|
The new interface offers lots of advanced features geared toward
power-user. However, for the every day's use, Mailbox Guard can get
the job done with a couple of simple mouse-clicks. It does not
require user to define any rules - everything is handled
automatically by the program itself. Written in C and Assembler
for size and speed. Compact and powerful. User friendly interface.
Run well on all Windows from 95 upward to XP.

MINI-FAQ V 1.7
1. Q:
Is Mailbox Guard effective also against Base64-encoded Spam
emails ? (often used in porno advertising messages)
A:
Yes it is. It handles all encoding standards, for both text and HTML.
2. Q:
What abouy SpyWare ? (protecting your privacy)
A:
There is no way for any malicious code carried in email message,
including SpyWare, to do any harm, or reveal any information -
when it is killed before being downloaded on to your PC (that's
what Mailbox Guard is basically about).
3. Q:
How do I mark manually message for deletion ?
A:
Just click the Envelope icon (leftmost), and it will toggle
DELIVER (Envelope) status to DELETE (red cross). If you want to
change it back - just click it again.
4. Q:
Why only RED (level 3) messages are marked for deletion.
A:
This is simply a default setting. User can select any level.
Go to Options->Setup->"Automatically tag for deletion items ranked"
and pick your choice from the list ( Red / Orange / Yellow / None ).
So, if you, say select Orange level then MBG will mark for deletion
all messages with risk equal to, or higher than Orange. Thus all
Orange (level 2), and Red (level 3) will be marked for deletion
automatically during the scan.
5. Q:
When messages are deleted ?
A:
Messages marked for deletion are not deleted unless button DELETE
is pressed. Work of caution: once messages are deleted they are gone
for good. This process is irreversible, you have been warned.
6. Q:
Why I can still find in my mailbox messages that have been
marked by Mailbox Guard for deletion ?
A:
Just make sure that your email program is not set to "Automatically
Receive Mail" or "Check mail every (...) minutes".
7. Q:
I receive mail under few different aliases on the same server,
how can I make Mailbox Guard to not tag the message as possible spa
when receive message with alias different from Email Address in
Account settings ?
A:
Simply provide a common part of the email string as your email
address when you create new account. For example, if you have your
own web server, say myserver.com, and you have a couple of aliases
like info@myserver.com, myname@myserver.com, support@myserver.com
etc. the string you enter for email address could be @myserver.com,
or even myserver.com only.
8. Q:
How can I do that messages from a particular sender will
always be marked for deletion ?
A:
Just right-click the message from that sender in the list, and
select "Add To Black-List". From this time on, every new message
from that person will be automatically marked for deletion. If you
change your mind, simply right-click, and select "Remove From List".
9. Q:
How can I do that messages from a particular sender will
never be marked for deletion ?
A:
Just right-click the message from that sender in the list, and
select "Add To White-List". From this time on, all messages from
that person (even if fall into high risk category) will never be
marked for deletion. This override may constitute a security risk
so exercise caution. If you change your mind, simply
right-click, and select "Remove From List".
10. Q:
How to deal safely with messages marked Red (high risk) which
contains important information I want to keep ?
A:
Use common sense and Preview in your judgement
whether to let the message in. If all you need is textual data,
you can cut & paste the contents of the Preview
window away to your document and save it to file. Alternatively you
can Dump message in question to file (it is safe)
and extract important data from there. Also, it enables you to run
your favourite anti-virus program on "dumped" file, and "fix" it
if needed. Fixed file can be later imported to any program, which
facilitates import of email messages.
11. Q:
Is Mailbox Guard "heavy on resources" for my PC ?
A:
Not at all. It takes much less memory and system resources than
standard email program (i.e. MS Outlook Express, or Eudora). As a
matter of fact, I usually keep MBG all time on, checking from time
to time what arrived in mail. Then once, at the end of the day I
fire-up my Outlook Express to collect all remaining mail and send
replies.
